When I was in high school I wanted to be like everybody else. I wanted to fit in and meet some new friends. With meeting new friends I met the good ones and the bad ones. What I didn’t realize at that time was the bad ones were only going to bring me down and make me skip school. My junior year I had dropped out of school during the middle of the year because my mom just found she had cancer and I was the only one that was there to help her. I decided once that year was over that I would go back for my senior year, but I would have to be a semester behind and not graduate with my class. It was a big disappointment, but I knew that my mom was my main priority so I sucked it up and took her to her appointments, sat with her while she was doing her treatments, took her home, and helped her with whatever she needed at home. Summer finally came and I was ready to get back to school in those short couple months. I knew my mom was doing better and her tumors were shrinking. I decided that I wanted to hang out with friends more during that time when my mom was feeling good. Then during the summer my grandpa found out he was had a tumor on his liver. It ended up spreading throughout his whole liver during the summer, but unlike my mom he didn’t have the options to do treatments because he was so old he could have died on the table. I ended up spending my whole summer with my family so I didn’t miss anytime with them. When a nurse has in mind that she is entirely responsible for the patients, he will take great care of the patient. The other element which is vital and that I embrace as a nurse is competence. A nurse has to be competent in all of the practices that he undertakes, for instance, a nurse that carries out pain management techniques that may not be efficient to the patient is uncaring. Poor pain management strategies may be due to poor organization procedures or lack of adequate knowledge from the nurse.
